Nyonya Food, somewhere in Seapark, PJ

A few days ago, I joined a dinner with friends from Taman Megah, PJ; we were wondering what to eat and eventually stopped by a Nyonya Restuarant at Seapark. Due to Ramadhan period, there are a few big tables were taken.
Apparently my friend was here before, and he recommended the curry fish head and he said it's a must try dish in that restaurant. literately, we ordered that curry fish head, and some other dishes like fried chicken, sambal sotong and prawns.
It doesn't take too long, the food were served gradually. the curry fish head is quite catchy for my eye, the color of the curry and mixed of the ingredients makes me exciting and couldn't wait for give it a try. the cook didn't any coconut milk in it, so it's not really thick, the taste is spicy, sweet and sour; it was because of Asam and pineapple, I wondered they put the mint leaves on top of the curry, I thought it was for decoration , but when I taste it with curry, it reminds me the Asam Laksa. the fish head is not fresh enough (I'm very sensitive of the freshness of the seafood), but still acceptable. They put a lot of vegetables into the curry, overall, that pot of curry fish head was just ok for me. Not more than my expectation and nothing much to complaint.
The prawn didn't leave me much impression, perhaps I just took one , and the rest had been finished by all of my friends. the prawn's freshness is same with the fish head, but still ok, the dark sauce is surprisingly sweet and I though it would salty, anyway, the strong taste of the sauce had covered the flaw of the prawn itself.
The Sotong and long bean was quite good, (I was planning to order Sotong with Patai, but one of my friend doesn't eat Patai; therefore, we changed to long bean.) The dish looked fantastic, thanks to the fresh long bean, it perfectly matches with the color of the sambal, and I think the cook has slightly deep fried the long bean to make it extra crunchy. The sambal was really tasty and it was perfect to go with plain rice.
For the fried chicken, OMG, I think it's the best dish among the other dishes that we ordered that night. The presentation of the chicken was nice as well, they put some Keropo on top of the chicken, it doesn't look plain that just the chicken itself. Before I started eating the chicken, the aroma of the deep fried chicken already waken up my other senses; it was really fragrant. the golden brown crunchy coat of the chicken was perfectly cooked, and the meat hidden underneath of the skin was surprisingly juicy; and the taste was simply just nice, not too much or too less. They also provided the dipping sauce for the chicken, it has some fresh cut chili, onion and the special ingredient, the plum powder; it doesn't go weird with the chicken and it brought an unexpected feeling. it was like tropical or Hawaii taste, Ok, perhaps you think I'm exaggerating the fact, but I really feel that way. I had only tasted one single piece of the chicken and there was no more left on the plate, (Damn it, Come on. You guys! anyway, the portion also really small) and that why we placed an extra order of the fried chicken that we could enjoy it more.
Overall, this restaurant was quite ok, thanks to the chicken; otherwise, it's nothing much to mentioned about. And it ain't cheap yo. (RM30.00 for each person after divided by 4 persons)

Dak Galbi

每人份RM22.00, 也不便宜。

Roast Duck

This afternoon, my colleagues brought me to Sunrise Roasted Duck rice for lunch, where located at Seapark, PJ. We sneaked out around half an hour earlier than usual, since boss ain’t here… Lol

It doesn’t too crowd when we arrived, but we did have the trouble to look for car park there. The roast ducks were hanging on the traditional Chinese barbeque stall and being presented their most gorgeous and attractive side in front of everyone who pass by there. The aroma of the roast duck was surrounding every corners of the whole restaurant; the restaurant is not too big, it’s just a single shop at the center of the shop lot and it’s obviously to be told the business was ran over decades depend on the outlook

Not too long to be waited, the food were served on our table, the duck was perfectly roasted and cut, every single piece truly is an eye candy and catching our eye until our saliva started flowing inside of our mouth, and we couldn’t wait for any single second to start digging.
I didn’t took too many picture since I was busying of enjoying the roast duck; the duck skin is crispy as I expected, the meat was surprisingly tender and juicy; the taste of the duck was not too strong, but dipping with the sauce and chili paste; It was heavenly.
We had finished the entire duck rapidly by 6 of us, apparently it’s not enough for us; therefore, we ordered another order of entire duck. Still, we certainly can finish it as well. The meal was quite enjoyable and the bill was around RM130, it truly was a heavy lunch.

Fatty Crab

Last week I went to a restaurant, called "Fatty Crab (肥佬蟹)". it was located at Taman Megah, nearby Ming Tian food court. I used to pass by there several time, but never have chance to try there. Somehow, two of my very closed good friends who suggested to go there, when I reached there, that place was full of customers, some are even lining up and waiting for the empty table. It was a good sign which I always believe that the good food will bring along the crowd for a restaurant.

Luckily my friend was here early and got a table, soon enough our gang full arrived and placed the order right a way. Before the food delivered, we have ordered the fried chicken wings, which seem quite famous here. In fact, this restaurant doesn't offer too much variety of the food choices. Only the crab, fried rice, chicken wings and satay, these a few options good enough to bring along this amount of customer, I was impressed and cannot wait for the food to be delivered.
The wings for me was just okay, it was deep fried, but it doesn't covered any flour but only the rich favor of seasoning. it was a bit dry and somehow I felt salty. feeling thirsty after having it; but it might be a good finger food goes along with beers and alcohol.

The fried rice was served, for me, it was just a normal fried rice, the fragrance of the rice was nice, but it taste dry and boring, not worth to mention at all.

Finally the leading dish was arrived, we had ordered the spicy and sour crab instead of ordering another option of steamed crab. The crab was fresh and the meat was firm and full, the sauce was rich of favor. I was thinking it might because of they a lot of chili paste and asam, I almost chocked myself by simply put a tiny spoon of sauce into my mouth. It was really sour and spicy. Overall, the crab was pretty decent and remarkable. it wasn't cheap anyway. will it worth to going back for another try? maybe not.

Shang Har Mee

My colleague who is a food maniac introduce me a very well-known dish in KL-- Shang Har Mee (生虾面). he mentioned that you must try that before I going back to JB, and I might be considered not really living in KL unless I try that. And the way he describe the food truly was a huge temptation that smashed my certain part of my brain cell, and I was dying to try it sometimes.
Days after days, weeks after weeks; my colleague finally fulfill his promise and my desire last month, he brought me to this restaurant during lunch time. it was not really crowded as I expected. soon enough we had  placed the order, and it doesn't take too long to present the food.

The first thing caught my eye is the giant shrimp laying on top of the noodle, the noodle is "Cantonese Shang Mee", which was deep fried and covered by the rich and tick favor of eggy sauce. Truly is an eye candy.

The taste, it was beyond my expectation, it was quite similar to "Cantonese Yun Yong", but it tastes richer and stronger, maybe because of the shrimp itself, cooking with the sauce which pulling this noodle dish to another extraordinary level. The deep fried dehydrated noodle absorbed the tasteful sauce, your every bite are satisfy; of course, the leading ingredient, giant shrimp, the meat is solid and firm, and bouncy in your mouth. The yellow paste of the shrimp, mixing with the sauce and goes into your mouth, it was indescribable.

Chee Chong Fun

I remembered couple months ago during weekend, when I woke up; it's already afternoon with my minor hangover due to the party at previous night. Hence, while I got ready and drove out to look for any food to slow down the salvation in my stomach, I passed by a shop lot near my apartment, it was so crowded, it seem like a small pasar pagi but without selling any vegetables and fishes. Clearly, there are a few food stall around there, I quickly found a parking and hunted my food there, a "Chee Chong Fun" stall caught my eye; there were quite a lot of people who stood there and enjoy their "Chee Chong Fun". Yes, just stood there because they don't offer any table and chair for customer, everyone just choose the extra ingredient (like fish ball, meat ball, sausage, friend wonton or "yong tau fu") for their "chee chong fun" and apply the sauce on top of it (they offer sweet sauce, chili sauce and curry sauce, you can mix them if you want) then stand a side and enjoy their heavenly food.

I think the most enjoyable element of this food is not because of their unique ingredient or their sauce, it's because the experience of standing the roadside and enjoy the food that you might hard to find it somewhere else nowadays.
